Today's Gift

We are better than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less. -- Anonymous

We are wonderful, capable human beings worthy of love and happiness. We all have a gift to give the world that can't be duplicated. No one else is exactly like us.

The problem is, we don't believe it. We are used to thinking about all our negative qualities and become expert at putting ourselves down. We have a hard time believing and accepting our own goodness and gifts.

When we have a negative attitude, only one person can change it - us. We have the power to choose to change our thinking - if we want to. It takes a courageous person to risk getting positive and hopeful. Getting sober is evidence enough that we have that courage.

Today let me believe I am better than I know.

This too shall pass
When personal problems are brought up in group discussions, someone usually remembers the saying, "This too shall pass." We use it in reference to unpleasant matters, but it also applies to happier experiences. It is a certainty that nothing will ever stay the same.

Our responsibility to ourselves is to see all situations constructively, whether they are seen as good or bad at the time.  WHat seems a disappoint today might be seen as a blessing tomorrow.  And we can't always be sure that today's wonderful opportunity doesn't have a few hidden nettles in it.

The one certainty is that everything will pass. We should extract the good from everything, and let what is unpleasant fade into the past.

Action for the Day: Whatever I'm facing today will certainly change as I do my best in the 24 hours ahead. None of us  is permanently bound to any problem.

One Day At A Time

Powerless
Alcohol, now become the rapacious creditor,
bleeds us of all self-sufficiency and all will to resist its demands.
Once this stark fact is accepted,
our bankruptcy as going human concerns is complete. . .
Our admissions of personal powerlessness finally turn out to be firm bedrock
upon which happy and purposeful lives may be built.

Thought to Ponder . . .
Powerless and grateful makes me powerFUL and great.

Daily Motivation
The opportunity of right now

Opportunity, when combined with effort, brings achievement. Now is when you have the opportunity and now is when you can make the effort.

Each moment opens up new possibilities for creating value that can remain in your life long after the moment is gone. Now, on this day, in this place, is one such powerful moment.

You could let this day simply pass on by, and take with it all its valuable opportunities. Or, you can get busy and make something of those opportunities.

Sure, you can come up with perfectly reasonable excuses for not taking action. Yes, you can let the disappointments and frustrations stop you.

Or, you can choose to act on the unique, valuable opportunities that are in front of you right now. Before the value of this day passes you by, you can take hold of that value and make it a permanent part of your life.

The opportunities of right now are powerful and valuable, but only if you choose to act on them while they are here. Reach inside, connect solidly with your dreams, let those dreams motivate you to take action, and make the efforts that will bring those dreams to life.
