Today's Gift

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. Jim Rohn

You are the artist in your life

You create the images and colors on the canvas called your life. Are you creating the picture you want? Does your canvas convey a life of fulfillment and growth? Or does your canvas convey chaos and despair?

You are the artist; the Universe is your co-creator. Together all things are possible. But when we mistakenly believe that other people control our destiny, we end up feeling bitter and hopeless. In truth, we're in partnership with a Higher Power, or whatever you choose to call it. We make the initial decisions; the Universe carries out our plans. The Universe could not render our lives what they are without our assistance. We are the artists, and ultimately we call the shots.

I invite you to consider a different perspective. This may not be easy to swallow if you are a struggling single parent, someone who has just lost a job, or someone facing other tough circumstances. You're invited to first see whether you played a part in where you are. And the best news you can give yourself is to say yes, because if you played even a small part, there is something you can do to change that canvas of your life. But if you played no part whatsoever, then you may be waiting forever for someone to change the course of your life. And that could be a very long wait.

You're invited to be your artist. And you have at your fingertips all the necessary tools to turn your canvas into a masterpiece.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Self-image sets the boundaries of individual accomplishment. --Maxwell Maltz

The way we think about ourselves determines how we behave and who we become. If Eileen believes she is good at baseball, she will swing the bat more confidently and catch fly balls more easily. And her extra effort will generally pay off. At math, Steve thinks he's a whiz and it makes him proud. He studies so he'll continue to be a whiz.

The image we have of ourselves is like the blueprint the contractor follows when building a house. When we see ourselves sad or angry, our behavior and personality will match it. When we see ourselves withdrawn and afraid, we seem to avoid activities that involve others. How wonderful that we can change our behavior and thus ourselves by changing the picture we carry in our minds.

Action for the Day: I will create a good picture of myself today.

One Day At A Time

Pain
Someone who knew what he was talking about once remarked that pain
was the touchstone of all spiritual progress. How heartily we A.A.'s
can agree with him, for we know that the pains of drinking had to
come before sobriety, and emotional turmoil before serenity.

Thought to Ponder
The gritty pain of alcoholism is the traction of recovery.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Fresh perspective
by Ralph Marston

Take a few moments, and take a few steps away from the commotion and confusion. Guide yourself to a place where you can see more clearly, and give yourself a fresh, empowering perspective.

You’ll realize that much of what concerns you, need not concern you. You’ll understand that the problems are easily outnumbered by the many opportunities and positive possibilities.

You’ll recognize that much of what seems to hold you back does so only with your consent. You’ll discover how easy it can be to let go of self-imposed limitations and allow yourself to move forward.

Gently take a few steps away. Arrive at a place where you can focus on what is truly important.

Enjoy being in a place where your purpose really matters. Feel how much a renewed sense of purpose can energize your efforts.

Life has great beauty, and is filled with an unending stream of wonderful possibilities. Take a few steps back from the noise and distractions, and watch as the best of those possibilities come clearly into focus.
