Today's Gift

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength. --Corrie Ten Boom

"Make plans but don't plan results." This is a simple phrase cautioning us against unnecessary worry and stress.

If our plans involve other people, we would be wise to work joyfully toward realizing our dreams, but we should not expect or worry if others do not want the same goals. Nor should we worry if others are not as enthused about our ideas as we are. We know, by applying the Serenity Prayer, that we can only change ourselves; we cannot force changes in others.

Another cause of unnecessary stress in planning results comes from our ingrained habit of regarding ourselves as inadequate. All too often, those of us who make plans give up on ourselves when we predict the outcome of our dreams on the basis of our past experiences. We falsely conclude that because we failed or felt empty in the past, we'll most certainly not succeed in the future; thus, we quit too soon and rationalize our resignation with a "Why bother to try?" attitude.

TODAY I will make plans but not plan results. I will work out my plan, one day at a time, knowing that my past performance is NOT an infallible indicator of my present or future success. I will look forward with hope, not despair.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

We give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way. Sacred ritual chant.

Good things keep happening to us. We are sober. We can think clearly. We can see progress on how we handle our problems. We have friends. We have love. We have hope.

We are starting to feel joy. Our fears are getting smaller. We are starting to trust our new way of life. Our new life brings good things to us. It brings blessings every day. We are beginning to expect them. But we’re still surprised at how good life can be. What a difference from the days before we entered our program!

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, thank-you for the blessings You keep on giving. And thanks for whatever today will bring.

Action for the Day: One way to give thanks for my blessings is to share them with others.

One Day At A Time

Restored
Even so has our Higher Power restored us all to our right minds.
To this man, the revelation was sudden.
Some of us grow into it more slowly.
But They have come to all who have honestly sought Them.
When we drew near to Them They disclosed Theirself to us!

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Free from worry
by Ralph Marston

You don’t have to worry about anything. Worry is not something you have to do, it’s something you choose to do, and you can just as easily choose not to worry. Worry accomplishes nothing and costs precious time and energy. So why would you want to spend your time on it?

Even when there’s every reason to be concerned, there’s no reason to worry. There are plenty of other, much more effective ways to respond to any situation.

Just imagine what it would be like to be completely free from worry. Think of how much you could accomplish, and think of how positively it would affect every moment of every day. You can be free from worry, right here, right now. Simply understand that your worries accomplish nothing, and let them drop quickly away from you.

When you feel the urge to worry, make the choice to act on your concerns rather than worrying about them. Doing something positive is infinitely more valuable than thinking of something negative.

Leave your worries behind, put your energy into effective action, and be amazed at the great things you can accomplish.
