Today's Gift

Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush. --Doug Larson

Life is never just one thing. It is quite possible to feel optimistic and happy even when some things are not right with us. An optimistic outlook gives us energy to handle the harder things that we have to deal with. Research shows that people who have a positive attitude have a stronger immune system, are healthier, live longer, and are even more likely to recover from serious illness.

To believe in hopeful outcomes is largely a matter of choice. Many of us have experienced big disappointments and defeats in life. But having come this far, we can look back and see that somehow we had the capacity to deal with it. The Universe guides us to believe in hopeful possibilities. We can't say that things will always turn out just the way we hope, but that we can cope with whatever happens.

Today I choose to believe that a power greater than myself can help me deal with life, and I have reason to be optimistic.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

It is extraordinary how extraordinary the ordinary person is. --George F. Will

At our meetings, we often hear stories of the courage of ordinary people and their triumph against great odds. When we hear of a person's life being restored, we are witnesses to miracles. Our friends are heroes and so are we. As a man describes his passage from insanity to recovery, we are moved. Whenever we are truly open to knowing the people around us, whether at a meeting or in getting to know a neighbor, we will see heroism. It is amazing that when we get to know most people, and hear what their lives have been like, we find so much to admire and respect. It is a privilege to have such friends. It is amazing that they are so abundant when we open ourselves to them. The Universe truly does speak to us through others.

Action For the Day: I am grateful when I think about the extraordinary people around me and the courage in each of them. I am grateful to be among them.

One Day At A Time

Profound Change
Quite often friends of the newcomer are aware of the difference long before they are themself.
They finally realize that they have undergone a profound alteration in their reaction to life;
that such a change could hardly have been brought about by their self alone.
What often takes place in a few months could seldom have been accomplished by years of self-discipline.

Thought to Ponder
Change is the heartbeat of growth.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Opportunity to act
by Ralph Marston

If you’re having trouble taking action, ask yourself this question. Would you rather spend the next few hours creating regrets or creating value?

The opportunity to act is not some distant memory, not some future dream. The opportunity to act is now.

The value of that opportunity diminishes with every minute you wait. Stop waiting and start claiming the benefit of your own focused action.

Conditions may not be perfect, but your procrastination is not going to make those conditions any better. Go with what you have, now, and make of it all you can.

Now is when you can leave the excuses behind. Now is when your next achievement begins.

Remind yourself of the power and possibility in your opportunity to act right now. Without waiting another minute, take that power and make it yours.
