Today's Gift

Having boundaries doesn't complicate life; boundaries simplify life. --Beyond Codependency

There is a positive aspect to boundary setting. We learn to listen to ourselves and identify what hurt us and what we don't like. But we also learn to identify what feels good.

When we are willing to take some risks and begin actively doing so, we will enhance the quality of our life.

What do we like? What feels good? What brings us pleasure? Whose company do we enjoy? What helps us to feel good in the morning? What's a real treat in our life? What are the small, daily activities that make us feel nurtured and cared for?

We have deprived ourselves too long. There is no need to do that anymore, no need. If it feels good, and the consequences are self-loving and not self-defeating, do it!

Today, I will do for myself those little things that make life more pleasurable. I will not deny myself healthy treats.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

We are born in innocence. Corruption comes later. The first fear is a corruption, the first reaching for something that defies us. The first nuance of difference, the first need to feel better than the different one, more loved, stronger, richer, more blessed--these are corruptions. --Laura Z. Hobson

We are corrupted. To be a human is to be corrupted. Our corruptions interfere with our happiness at the very time we are seeking happiness. When we think if only we were prettier, smarter, had a better job, then we'd be happy, we are giving in to corruptions. And these corruptions stifle our growth. We are each who we need to be. We have a supporting role in one another's lives. We can teach and learn from one another.

Recovery is choosing to help ourselves and one another to be as we are; to quit making comparisons; to celebrate our differences, knowing they give intensity to life's colors for us all.

Action for the Day: I can celebrate our special and different gifts today. My heart will be lightened.

One Day At A Time

Blind
For a brief moment, I had needed and wanted my Higher Power.
There had been a humble willingness to have Them with me—and They came.
But soon the sense of Their presence had been blotted out by worldly clamors,
mostly those within myself. And so it had been ever since.
How blind I had been.

Thought to Ponder
Today, my brain has cleared with the grace of clarity.

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Future consequences
by Ralph Marston

Long after this day is over, you’ll be living with the consequences of what you do with it. Now, while you are living this day, you can make those future consequences positive and beneficial.

Every choice in every moment matters, and continues to matter after the moment has passed. Make the choices now that will make life increasingly good as time goes on.

Live this day well, enjoy its possibilities and pleasures. But don’t sacrifice the quality of future days in order to do so.

The choices you make today will echo through your life for a long time. Act in a way that will make your future self thankful again and again.

Right now, you have leverage over your entire future. Even the smallest nudge in a positive direction can create major benefits as time goes by.

Summon the strength to make that nudge, and live today as if your choices, your actions will influence the rest of your life. Because they will.
