Today's Gift

It is a long baptism into the seas of humankind, my child. Better immersion than to live untouched. --Tillie Olsen

We have each had days when we preferred hiding under the covers, avoiding life at all costs. And in times gone by, we did just that, sometimes too frequently. What we didn't always know, and what we still forget on occasion, is that we have a ready and willing Partner who will join us in every pursuit.

The more fully we commit ourselves to one another and to all our experiences, the closer we will come to the very serenity we long for. Serenity accompanies our increasing understanding of life's many mysteries. It's easy to cheat ourselves out of the prizes any day offers us. Fear fosters inertia, leaving us separate, alone, even more afraid. But we have an appointment with life. And our appointment will bring us to the place of full understanding, the place where we'll be certain, forever after, that all is well. And that life is good.

Today's appointments are part of the bigger plan for my life. I will face them, enjoy them, and reap their rewards.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

According to the teachers, there is only one thing that all people possess equally. This is their loneliness. --Hyemeyohsts Storm

Many of us have tried to find a way to outwit our loneliness, or to escape its truth. We have learned that we cannot. As parents looking at our children we may wish to spare them this pain. As adults with our mates, we have dreamed of an ideal connection where all loneliness was dispelled.

We can't obliterate loneliness. But we can learn to accept and deal with it. There is no need to compulsively cover all traces and all reminders that we are alone. We can accept this universal truth. We are alone, but so is everybody. We can make true contact with each other out of our aloneness. True intimacy with another person comes out of first seeing our separateness, and then bridging the gap.

Action for the Day: Today, I accept the feeling of loneliness as part of life. I can make contact with others, knowing we are all in the same condition.

One Day At A Time

Lost Faith
"The here and now was good enough for us. The will to win would carry us through.
But then alcohol began to have its way with us.
Finally, when all our score cards read 'zero,' and we saw that one more strike
would put us out of the game forever, we had to look for our lost faith.
It was in A.A, that we rediscovered it. And so can you.”
- 12 Steps & 12 Traditions, p. 29

Thought to Ponder
Faith is our greatest gift; its sharing with others our greatest responsibility.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Serendipity
by Ralph Marston

Good things will come to you in ways you could never anticipate or expect. Yet if you’re constantly placing judgments, conditions and restrictions on your life, you’ll miss out on most of those good things.

Being open to the abundance of life means being open to the unknown and unexpected. If you hide away from what you do not know, you’ll never discover anything new.

The world is constantly changing, and many of those changes can seem frightening. Yet within each and every change there is opportunity.

When the world changes, legions of positive possibilities are born. When the unexpected happens, there is much new value to be created.

Choose to welcome the constant newness that is essential to life. For it brings new ways to more fully express and fulfill your own unique purpose.

In every unexpected turn of events is a pleasant surprise waiting to be discovered. Open yourself to the freshness of each dawning moment, and find those magnificent treasures that have just been born.
