Today's Gift

All the arts we practice are apprenticeship. The big art is our life. --M. C. Richards

What you do for a living is not who you are. You are more, much more, than that.

It's easy to get so caught up in what we do that we're only identifying ourselves through our daily tasks. I am a mechanic. I am a parking lot attendant. I am a doctor. I am a dishwasher. When we link ourselves too closely to our jobs, we deny ourselves the chance to ever be anything else.

Our Higher Power gave us the power to change. You're more than what you do. You're a vital vibrant soul that came here to experience, grow, and change. Make a masterpiece out of your life.

Higher Power, help me realize the glory of my soul. Thank you for my mortality and for the ability to learn and grow.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

To thine own self be true.--AA medallions

Sometimes we hear that we have a "selfish program." Being "selfish" means that we ask for help when we need it. We only go to places that are safe for us, no matter what others are doing. Being selfish comes to mean safety for us.

Being selfish doesn't mean we act like brats. We must act in ways that show respect and love---for ourselves and for others. being selfish means we do what is good for us. What is good for us? First, we have to save our lives by stopping our drinking and drugging. Next, we start working the Steps. We come to know a loving Higher Power. This is how we come to know our true self.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me be true to myself and my values. Help me be "selfish" about spending time to talk with You each day.

Action for the Day: I'll list ten ways I need to be "selfish" in recovery. If I get stuck, I'll be "selfish" and ask for help.

One Day At A Time

Tolerance
We begin to see that all people, including ourselves, are to some extent emotionally ill as well as frequently wrong, and then we approach true tolerance and see what real love for our fellows actually means.
It will become more and more evident as we go forward that it is pointless to become angry,
or to get hurt by people who, like us, are suffering from the pains of growing up.
~ Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 92

Thought to Ponder . . .
Love and tolerance of others is our code.

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Living it fully
by Ralph Marston

The power, the beauty, the fulfillment in life come with the living of it. Now is the time to live it.

Joy is not hiding in some distant place of perfection and pleasure. Joy is ready and waiting for you to live it right now.

If you’re waiting for conditions to be ideal, stop waiting and start living. Whatever the conditions may be, now is the time to bring the best possibilities to life.

Think before you act, and consider the consequences. But don’t allow worry, doubt or indecision to hold you back from all the living that can be done right now.

Let go of the need to judge whether every little thing is good, bad, happy or sad. Just put yourself into living it fully, giving it your best.

This day, this place, this situation is your opportunity to make a difference, to express and experience joy, to live. Seize that opportunity and run with it.
