Today's Gift
Telling the truth is a pretty hard thing. —Thomas Wolfe

Lying can be like sailing choppy waters. The more we lie, the higher the waves get, and the harder the sailing. When we lie, we feel we've failed ourselves and others. We have to work hard to cover up our lies, and the fear of someone finding out is always with us.

If we ask our Higher Power for courage to tell the truth, we can be like the sailboat on a clear and calm day. We can enjoy the small waves and the light warm breeze we've given ourselves. Honesty is a good habit, and is easy. With a little faith in our own worth, we can choose the calm waters' honesty and apply our creativity to new, growth-oriented activities instead of covering up old mistakes.

How can I smooth my waters right now?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Being less than perfect.

It was not a perfect year. But is there ever a perfect year? Being clean and sober does not purport or offer perfection. It gives us a chance to strive for progress. When we keep our Higher Power in our thoughts and actions, we come closer to perfection all the time.

Despite the disappointments of our complex lives, we are finally beginning to learn how to live. We are finally making progress.

Am I content to be less than perfect?

Action for the Day: Higher Power, I pray that I may continue to strive for progress and be satisfied to be an imperfect human.

One Day At A Time

Simple Arithmetic
It is not always the quantity of good things you do,
it is also the quality that counts. . .
Above all, take it one day at a time.

Transform limitations

Every limitation is nothing more than a situation you’ve chosen to consider as, and to handle as, a limiting factor. Though you often cannot change the underlying situation, you can quickly and easily change the way you perceive and deal with it.

The very definition of a limitation is something that can stop you or hinder you. As such, the reason anything becomes a limitation is because you assume it to be a limitation.

However, you can always choose to make a different assumption. You can decide to focus on the positive possibilities, and to make use of them in moving forward.

Yes, life is very often difficult, complicated and challenging. Yet for every factor that threatens to hold you back, there are dozens of other possibilities for moving forward.

The limitations are not really what hold you back. To the degree that you are hindered, it is because you put more focus, energy and effort into negative thoughts and excuses than into positive possibilities and effective actions.

Sure, life is tough, but you have what it takes to create great value and fulfillment no matter what the obstacles. Remind yourself often of your own positive power, and transform every limitation into a reason to succeed.

— Ralph Marston
