Today's Gift

As we think, so we become.

We can enrich our interior monologue. We can seek the company of people who inspire us with a loving approach to life. We can absorb the written thoughts of writers who encourage our positive emotions. We can decide to be cheerful and optimistic, just for today.

Whom would you rather be around - someone who chronically complains and talks about what a mess everything is, or someone who finds joy and delight in watching the antics of two squirrels in a tree? You are your constant companion. Your own company can be a pleasure or a drag, depending on the thoughts and feelings you permit to linger in your consciousness.

We take Steps Four and Five in order to sort out our thoughts, getting rid of those that depress our spirit. In Step Ten, we continue a daily mental housecleaning so that residues of resentment and discouragement are not allowed to accumulate. Then we go on to Step Eleven for an infusion of the kind of thinking that nurtures the person we want to become.

Today, I will exercise my freedom of thought.

Inner Harvest by Elisabeth L.

Twenty-Four Hours A Day

Keep It Simple

Addiction is answering the spiritual calling inside us by going to the wrong address.
---Chris Ringer

Where can we go to feel better, to feel spiritually alive? Not to alcohol or
other drugs. Not to compulsive spending, gambling, or sex. Not to overeating
or overworking. When we turn to these things to feel better, we’re trading
one addiction for another, we’re going to the “wrong address.”

What is the right address? Our inner needs. Our Higher Power. Our recovery
program. Our friends. Soon, we become part of a network of “safe addresses.”

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, keep me on the right path. I don’t want to
go to the wrong address anymore.
Action for the Day: Today, I’ll make sure I have at least three “right address”
in my wallet or purse. I’ll list names and day and evening phone numbers of
people who will love and help.

One Day At A Time

Promise
No matter how far down the scale we have gone,
we will see how our experience can benefit others.
That feeling of uselessness and self pity will disappear.
We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.
Self-seeking will slip away.
Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 85

Daily Motivation

In an instant

Life can change in an instant, so do everything you can to make that work in your favor. Choose to use this instant to change your world for the better.

Life can change in an instant, and you can be the one who changes it. Even the small, positive actions have beneficial consequences that stretch and multiply far into the future.

This is just one small moment right now. Yet it is an opportunity to have a positive impact, and after it will be another such opportunity, and another, and another.

The power you have is in this instant, right now, ready for you to make use of in a positive way. The influence of what you do today will quite literally shape the future, in ways that go far beyond anything you can imagine.

It’s natural to look at life from the perspective of what has been, yet there’s a much more empowering perspective available to you. Focus your energy on visualizing and feeling how life can be when it is at its best, and use this instant to live in that direction.

From moment to moment, from instant to instant, life changes, and in that change is limitless opportunity. Now is your chance to seize that opportunity, and to bring great value to life in your world.

— Ralph Marston
