Today's Gift

It is more profitable to turn away thine eyes from such things as displease thee than to be a slave to contention.--Thomas A. Kempis

Focusing our attention incessantly on matters that disturb us, keeps us disturbed. And our obsession with our problems leaves no room for their solutions. However, we are only powerless in the face of difficulties if we choose to be. We are always free to search for the good, which is lost in a tangled situation. We can be certain that our progress in life is equal to our capacity to let go of our problems and move ahead with the momentum of a positive attitude.

All too frequently, we fail to recognize opportunities for growth and success because we have chosen to be trapped by circumstances that are beyond our control. We may not realize this but we are never tied to problems. Solutions are always within our grasp. However, we must let go long enough to gain a responsible perspective on the situation.

Problems need not stifle my growth today.

What brings change?
In human affairs, vast changes sometimes take place almost spontaneously, bringing on revolutionary upheavals. What brings about such change?
These visible changes, for good or bad, occur because people come to accept new ideas. It's easy to see how this works in one person's life, but it works in the same way with socities.

The 12 Step movement is a most dramatic form of such change. We've become effective b ecause we have new forms of thinking to replace the old destructive forms that caused so much harm. Our movement will grow and develop only as long as we retain the new ways of thinging that first brought about this change.

Action for the Day: I'll hold to the idea that my life can only be as good as the thoughts I choose.

One Day At A Time

Living Sober

Somewhat to our surprise, staying sober turns out not to be the grim, wet-blanket
experience we had expected!
While we were drinking, a life without alcohol seemed like no life at all.
But for most members of AA, living sober is really living -- a joyous experience.
We much prefer it to the troubles we had with drinking.
One more note: anyone can get sober. We have done it lots of times.
The trick is to stay and to live sober. That is what this booklet is all about.

Daily Motivation

Achieve today

Achievement is not complicated, and it is easily within your reach. Achievement is as close as your next action.

You are made to make a difference, and you have a constant desire to make a difference. So instead of sulking, instead of complaining, instead of filling your thoughts with empty wishes, fill your time with purposeful effort and make that difference.

Now is when achievement can happen, yet it doesn’t just happen on its own. Take the first little step, feel how good and right it feels, and suddenly you’re making it happen.

There’s nothing to be gained by waiting for the perfect time or the perfect conditions. Now is the perfect time because it is the time you have.

You can transform today into meaningful achievement, or you can transform it into painful regret. Make the effort to make the achievement happen, and you’ll thank yourself over and over again.

Achieve today, because you can and because it will lift your whole world higher. Achieve today, and experience life at its best.

— Ralph Marston
