Today's Gift

Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.--Arthur Somers Roche

A trickle of water that drains down the side of a hill poses no problem to the hill, its vegetation, or the people living in the valley. But if that trickle grows into a stream, the water will erode a path, carrying along plants, rocks, and soil, endangering the lives and property of the people in the valley.

When a worry nags us, it is like that trickle. It poses little threat to us and can be stopped at any time because it is so small. But if we let more worrisome thoughts feed into the stream, we will allow it to grow until all of our thoughts and energy are focused on one worry that has attained great power.

We all have things we worry about. But we don't have to give these worries more than passing acknowledgment. The trickles that run through our minds are okay to have. But to keep them at that size, we need to remember what is important to us at this very moment. We don't need to let the worries grow.

I have worries just like everyone else. However, I don't have to dwell upon my worries or make them any bigger than what they are.

Temperament

Overcoming A Bad Disposition
People with bad dispositions, like people with drinking problems, do not recognize how difficult they are. They accept their bad disposition as normal. Some people even declare proudly that they're in a bad mood until they've been awake several hours or had three cups of coffee.

We do not have to put up with a BAD DISPOSITION. If we find ourselves touchy or grumpy at times, we should immediately release this to our Higher Power. There is a better pattern of thought and feeling to replace anything that comes across to others as a bad disposition.

It's surprising to learn that we don't have to live with a bad disposition. What's even more surprising is that we'll also be happier and more relaxed without it.

A bad disposition, we learn, is just so much unnecessary baggage we don't have to carry.

Action for the Day: I'll be relaxed and friendly at all times today. I have neither a need nor an excuse for a bad disposition.

One Day At A Time

Power

I have had to discard from my mind
all the thoughts and beliefs that were once there.
I gave them up reluctantly. I liked my old thoughts, even was proud of them.
I didn't want to believe in God, but through AA I got to a point where I had to.
Now I believe it is the strongest force on earth -- if the quietest.
You don't have to aware of power. It doesn't have to be loud, like a hurricane. . .
And we are not aware that the force of the sun is power at all.
Gravity acts on every cell of our body, every second,
and we are not conscious of it.
